HISTORY

Franz Josef Glacier School was formerly known as Waiho Gorge School and was established in 1921. After a fire in 1967 that destroyed the school, it was rebuilt as a two classroom school and renamed. To keep the school history alive we still enter every new enrolment into the old school record book that was established in 1967 after the fire!

In 2019, the school was remodelled to include a new collaborative learning space, with two classrooms side by side only separated by a sliding door. The old room 1 became a staffroom, resource room and an accessible bathroom.

If you have any pictures of the school, students or the community from the past we would love to share them on this page. Please send them to principal@franzjosf.school.nz.
