FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Kia ora and welcome to Franz Josef Glacier School.,
As the Principal of a small rural school I am constantly amazed by the resilience of our school community who, no matter what catastrophic event, (and we’ve had a few over the years) never take their eye off the ball in terms of committing to a culture of success for every child.
In 2019 the school was renovated and we feel very privileged to have such a beautiful new learning environment. With a growing roll, 2021 will see the build of our third classroom. We have traditional country values combined with what we believe is a curriculum that will prepare children for a fast-paced constantly changing future.
Our priorities for Franz Josef Glacier School are:
to give children a solid foundation in Literacy and Numeracy
to involve children in all aspects of the New Zealand curriculum
to develop the skills of a lifelong learner...as a “Franztastic Learner”
to enable them to become self-motivated, self-regulated learners
to help students discover their passions and purpose
to help them to develop cognitive and social skills and
to help them form a good character and be responsible citizens.
We have created a safe and very effective learning environment for all our children from Year 0 to 8! Caring for each other and valuing each other’s differences is part of our Franz Josef culture.
We have a very “family feel” to the school and this is very evident as soon as you walk in. This is based on our very strong values and beliefs about creating effective learning environments.
I regard myself as being extremely fortunate to be Principal of Franz Josef Glacier School and to be working with such enthusiastic, passionate staff and parents who are devoted to playing their part in their child’s education.
Student wellbeing is very important to us as well as academic and physical success. This is a lively vibrant school and a happy place to be in. Our feedback from high schools is that they can always pick the “Franz kids” as they are confident, have a give it a go attitude and will put their hand up for anything life throws at them! They are:
