Room 1 caters for the younger Year 0-2 children in the school. Their teacher is Miss Jess Kennedy.
Room 1 Learning programmes on entry to school:
focus on developing learner understandings around school-based routines, behaviours and positive patterns of learning.
establish a play/learning environment which balances an introduction to formal learning with free play/discovery type experiences
make links to capabilities developed through Te Whariki as pre-school learners, and include specific opportunities for parent and pre-school liaison/education/communication during transition
reflect the NZC by developing a strong emphasis on the key competencies (ie the dispositions to learning) and basic literacies in reading, writing and mathematics
Our learners also experience the performing and visual arts, a physical education programme that develops fine and gross locomotive skills. We have Discovery Time, where students direct their own learning through shared interests and big play.
In the summer months we like to learn in our school bush environment where the children can build huts, climb trees and engage in imaginative play or just chill under a tree and read a book.
They are also able to develop communication skills in Te Reo and sign language.
Whanau have access to their children’s learning experiences through the private class Facebook page.
